Anna Kiparis + Village Green Grocers
Icons in Pomegranates

This narrative unfolds against an extraordinary friendship between two distinct creative personas: Bee, the proprietor of a whimsical grocery store in Greenwich, and Anna Kiparis, an accomplished artist. Their paths serendipitously intersected a year ago at Charlton Village Square on a tranquil Sunday morning. While en route to the Sunday church service, Anna, compelled by curiosity, meandered through the still-drowsing town and stumbled upon a corner grocery store that radiated a vibrant and welcoming charm. A year later, the fruition of their camaraderie has manifested in an exhibition of Anna's works within Bee's grocery store, an unconventional setting where her icons harmoniously coexist with vegetables, fruits, bread, and wine—a simplistic yet symbolic biblical feast.

The simple format, where food and prayer converge, has become a true sensation within the local community, infusing incredible energy into the store. Visitors would select their groceries and contemplate the paintings, engaging in conversations about books and willingly sharing their own stories. Many of these narratives will be the foundation for Anna's future works. Among these narratives are "Life of Pi," the teachings of the Dalai Lama, and much more.

In the current world, the events unfolding and the ease of information access often make reality quite burdensome. People yearn for a safe space to share their hopes and experiences with others. The combination of a cozy environment and the irony in Anna's artwork provides a platform for individuals to initiate discussions about significant and complex matters, which are essential to experience and accept as part of modern life. The ability to compare real-life events with the imagery from literary art widens the spectrum of experiences and aids in ecologically processing personal encounters through art, bridging the gap between people and the world.
